Immunology Exam Imminent

We've learned a book's worth of immunology material in the past three weeks, and will thankfully have the opportunity today to unload that material on an exam, so that the next cycle of med school binge and purge can begin again. On this momentous occassion, I thought I would share an excellent motivator tool I found.

I can send you the original file over e-mail if you would like. Just drop me a line at jstringe@mcw.edu. For the record, that picture is not my own work, and I have no idea at this point where I found it. So yeah, props to whoever put it together.

Have you posted about how you do your memorizing? Since a lot of the material from year one came back to you well enough for exams at end of year. I'm struggling with getting it all to stick / come back for later exams after knowing it in the short term...?

The key in memorizing for me has always been repetition. I have friends that read the notes before exams once very closely, and are able to recall alot of material, but I find myself reading through them 4 or 5 times less closely before I pick up all the details necessary. I call it the vacuum theory.

Anyways, when it comes to finals, I think you'll be surprised at how much will come back when studying for them (assuming you did fine on your midterms). But it will be just like you described: you'll cram a semester's worth of material in your head for that big final, and then a week later you could be asked about one of the easier concepts that you went over and you'll be completely dumbfounded that you can't remember them. You'll be sitting there thinking to yourself, "I know I should remember what ATP is."

Hey, just found your journal through SDN - I hope immuno went well (because I know I hated it with a passion).

And um, that's me in the picture for whoever was asking there. :)

Hey Kat,

Thanks so much for stopping by, and for your awesome motivational picture. I'm not going to lie, I've shown that one to quite a few friends at my school and they all love it. Well done, and I'm glad I can now give credit where it is due.
